DIY Screen Making for Enamelists and Others
This two-part workshop focuses on creating and applying screens based on personally selected or created imagery. Although this workshop is primarily intended for enamel artists, the techniques of making and applying screens apply as well to other media.

About the Event
In Session One, Jan will teach participants to make a portable, effective light box using basic, easy-to-find materials. (That way, participants will have their own equipment for making screens long after the workshop is over.) This light box is used to develop student-selected images onto commercial screen blanks. After an analysis and discussion of types of images appropriate for this process, Jan will guide students through the steps of creating their own screens, in preparation for the next session.
In Session Two, Jan will share the many uses of these screens in an enameling context, including direct on copper, over a base coat, on flat and volumetric surfaces, and screened on decal paper that is later applied to the artwork. Through demonstrations, you will see how the same screen used in different ways can provide a variety of effects, as simple enameled pieces come to life with the addition of screen-printed imagery.
To follow along during the workshop, basic enamel experience will be helpful.
